Planet Venus

  • Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is the brightest object in the sky after the Sun and the Moon.
  • Venus is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, and it is often referred to as the "morning star" or the "evening star", depending on its position relative to the Sun.
  • Venus is a rocky planet, similar in size and composition to Earth, with a diameter of approximately 12,104 km (7,521 miles).
  • Venus has a very thick atmosphere that is primarily made up of carbon dioxide, with clouds of sulfuric acid that completely obscure the planet's surface from view.
  • The surface of Venus is extremely hot, with temperatures that can reach up to 471 °C (880 °F), making it the hottest planet in our solar system.
  • Venus rotates very slowly, taking about 243 Earth days to complete one rotation on its axis, and it orbits the Sun every 225 Earth days.
  •  Venus has no moons, and it is known for its bright and distinctive appearance in the sky, which has been observed by humans for thousands of years.
  •  Venus has been visited by several spacecraft, including the Soviet Union's Venera and Vega missions, as well as NASA's Magellan spacecraft, which used radar to map the planet's surface in detail.
  •  Scientists continue to study Venus to learn more about its atmosphere, geology, and potential for supporting life in extreme environments.
  •  Venus is often considered Earth's "sister planet" because of its similarities in size and composition, but its extreme conditions make it an unlikely candidate for supporting life as we know it.
